WHITNEY
The kindest act of service is the person who shows up on moving day and helps you move your life and doesn't accept no for an answer.
CORTNEY
When we were fairly newly married, a friend of mine (that doesn’t know that we know who he is) bought us groceries and left it on our back porch. We had nothing, and it was such a blessing at the time. It had one simple note on it that said “You are loved!" That was about 13 years ago, and we still have that note on our refrigerator.
GRIFFIN
Small act of service that meant a lot to me, when my friends took me to India. They allowed me a break from work and that helped me gain perspective on a lot.
KANDEE
When I had knee surgery I was feeling pretty depressed. A lady in my ward, who I barely knew, text me. She said she was thinking of me and loved me. I have always thought she was listening to a prompting at that time. It was what I needed. I have been thinking about it a lot this week as she passed away Monday.
First one was when I was laid up from knee and hip replacement surgery and we needed the woodpile moved from up against the house to the shed. I had no way of helping but in walked the scouts from our ward and moved and stacked the wood in the shed, what a wonderful blessing!
The second act of service was when the flood struck in 1976. We had a nice home that was quite new and the flood struck and we had a basement but still had water 4 feet up on all the walls and cabinets. The basement had many cherished items from school and mission and years supply that was under water. We worked like dogs in this stinking water bailing it by the bucket load. When we were down to about 3 feet of water then the sewer backed up and sewage started bubbling up and we were devastated. We had many come and serve from family, friends and church members from all over that provided us with service from heaven. I learned a lot about service from this experience. Many times we give service but it is hard for me to accept service. Thank the good Lord for all who served or we would still be bailing water.
ASHLEY
Our neighbors invited us over for dinner on Monday. It was super last minute but I had been going 100 miles all day with our kitchen remodel. I didn’t have a plan for dinner and it just made my year for them to think of us and invite us over. It really made me feel loved.
ROBERTA / MOM
When we moved into our new place three years ago - it was "tough". We had to sort through almost 40 years of "stuff" and down-size! We were exhausted, to put it mildly. Toward the end of our move (the first night we stayed at our new home) I walked into the kitchen from the garage so tired and hungry to find a basket on our counter with a checkered cloth covering everything. When I pulled the cloth back I found a note that said to check our refrigerator and freezer. Besides food, disposable dishes/napkins/utensils I found a "feast" - stew with bread bowls, fruit, drink and frozen ice cream bars. I was amazed because the neighbor that put it all together was a very busy person! It was so thoughtful and so NEEDED at the time - I couldn't thank her enough!
UPDATE: SHADE, PAIGE AND RUBY
Our family has been doing great! We have been up to a lot the last couple months. Shade has been in and out of town working, and has been doing a lot of cool things - most of which I don’t understand but like to pretend like I do when he tells me stories about work!
Ruby is growing like a weed, and has been doing so much. She runs everywhere she goes and likes to pretend she is carrying on conversations with us.
I (Paige) am in school right now and am just finishing up my second semester. We are so excited to welcome our new baby into the family this September. We can’t wait for our family to grow even more.
(The images Paige sent were too small - as soon as she sends larger ones, I'll post them!)

| Jens K Petersen AND Helena Christina Hansen YOUR Great-great grandmother and grandfather on grandpa Ward's side |
Jens Kanute Petersen– 19 May 1815 - 1899
Born in Nors, Thisted, Denmark
Jens K served in the Kings Guard from the age of 21 to age 26. In all probability he became familiar with life in Copenhagen during that time. It is possible that he AND Helene met as he traveled south. Maybe his service was in the general vicinity of her home.
Helena Christina Hansen – 25 March 1815 - 1903
Born in Frederika, Vejle, Denmark
She is remembered as a very small lady with brown hair and twinkling eyes. She was vivacious, very active with lots of energy.
We do know that they were married in the Lutheran Church 10 October, 1848 in Nors, Thisted, Denmark. They “spread their wings” at the ages of thirty four, left their families and went to Copenhagen on Zeland Island to make their home. Note: It was customary for a young couple to live together when they became engaged until they had the money and could afford to marry in the church.
Their first child, Hans Christian (your great-grandfather) was born 30 July 1848 in their home in Copenhagen.
This story goes 'way back' . . . we will work "forward" to present-day as we meet your ancestors one by one!
Read more this week about their life together, their trials and tribulations and life of FAITH!
